I wrote this post a few years ago on my Human Body Detectives blog. Since I just returned back to Hawaii ( I live in LA for part of the year as my youngest daughter works here), and with more people and food, I realized I needed to be more organized. Hope this helps you as well.
With the holiday season (quickly) here, the fridge easily becomes over crowded and very disorganized. Below are a few tricks to help keep your food fresh and to find them easily.
1. Glass storage containers
Glass ( round ) storage containers stack easily and make it more visible to see what is in them.
2. Turntable ( thinking lazy susan type)
Items on a turn table can lessen the chance of things falling out of the fridge and simple to finds certain foods.
3. Surrender to more frequent shops
Plan to shop for produce a least one more day a week during the holidays. This will insure a fresh produce, lost produce in the fridge and a less packed fridge.
Food placement: Key in keeping everything fresh
Keep snacks ( make them nutritious) on the middle shelf for easy access ( middle shelf is where people will look first).
Keep diary on lower shelves where the temperature remains constant.
Eggs need to remain in their carton. They will have less chance of breaking ( the fridge door opening and shutting) and will keep a constant temperature.
Anyone else have suggestions? We could all use a little help during this busy season. I found this post very helpful, so to learn more click over to it.
Happy Holidays!
