Children get this. When they feel good, they like it because it allows them to do everything they want to do – play ball, read, swim, act, sing – so they stay in alignment with that.
Helping people feel good, tap into that feeling, and making that awareness, that connection, is my goal with ALL patients and ALL my HBD students. As I continually say to my patients and students, once you understand how your body works, how to nourish it, then you are more apt to stay there with your lifestyle changes.
I know fear is not a good motivation for long-term lifestyle changes. I do not promote that in any of my work. Awareness, encouragement through entertainment ( HBD), and education are my ways. Plus, practicing what I preach! I personally know, once I feel good, I want to stay in that feeling. It allows me to be more productive, more creative, more present, are of everything.
Simple tips to feel good
- shop the periphery of the store
- get to know your local farmers
- keep your pantry filled with healthy whole, colorful foods ( save the treats for parties)
- park further away; take the stairs and not the elevator
- get your tv out of your bedroom
- take a 15-minute walk every day
- get in nature; get sunlight first thing in the morning
- keep hydrated
Be gentle with yourself. Change can be hard. Begin small by adding a salad to your lunch, avocado to your hamburger, or watching more comedy shows. I have good days and not-so-great days; however, the good days trump now as I have been working on this for decades. It is never too late to begin.
If you are feeling overwhelmed, I have two places you can begin. I have a 4-week program, Simple, Sustainable Habits to Feel Great, Tips to Change Your Unconscious Behaviors, plus in August, if you are on my mailing list, I am offering, 12 Ways in 12 Days, Simple health solutions to bring into your everyday living.
I am a preventative health advocate and this is one of the reasons why: health resiliency.
How well you sleep, the food & water choices you make, your community, how you move your body, how you manage stress all help your body reach optimal function ( ie: immune health) and health resiliency. I want to help you in any way I can.
I hope to see you in one or both of the above offerings.
PS What is health residency? And do your lifestyle choices affect it? How fast do you bounce back from a cold? How fast do you recover from a tough workout? These all matter.
