What You Can Do to Avoid Environmental Pollution

May 8, 2020 By Dr. Heather

If you are a friend, family member, or patient of mine, you will commonly hear me say, “The solution to pollution is dilution.“ It’s a common phrase referring to the environmental industry; using water and air to dilute pollution (harmful chemicals) present on earth. But in my case, I’m referring to our bodies.

Here is why:

Environmental pollution is not only a problem on our planet, but it poses many health issues. Decades ago, acute diseases plagued our society. It was mostly due to poor hygiene. Unfortunately, presently, our society has moved into a new generation of chronic, long-lasting diseases: obesity, arthritis, heart disease, diabetes, depression. Chronic disease is almost completely due to lifestyle choices: overeating and not enough hydration, eating mostly processed foods, barely exercising, work far too many hours, too many pharmaceuticals, rarely getting into nature, and a heavy reliance on harmful household chemicals.

There are many approaches to help prevent chronic disease, one being – hydration. One simple solution to helping our bodies flush out environmental toxins in our body is drinking water. Keeping our body’s cells hydrated increases circulation, which in turn helps the body’s elimination pathways in flushing out toxins.

Who Likes Plain Water, Though?

  • Infuse your purified water with lemons, oranges, or cucumbers. The golden rule is to drink half your body weight. If you weigh 100 pounds, drink 50 ounces of water.
  • Below are a few simple herbal tea infusion recipes, that the kids will love to help out with:

Find that French Press you have hiding in your kitchen, and place your ingredients ( suggested brew below) in the French Press, add boiling water and let steep for 5 to 10 minutes. There is no need to measure. Strain and enjoy!

Try these herbal combinations:

Thyme, apple, and ginger

Lemongrass and lemon verbena

Lavender and lemon verbena

Peppermint, lemon

Tarragon and orange

Or maybe just a cinnamon stick?

Stay healthy.

xx

First Visit

We discuss your symptoms and what is going on with your health.

From our conversation, I draw up a treatment plan that will be sent to you within 24 hours with any suggested supplements and/or lab work. Depending on your location, we will determine the best place to have the lab work performed. Any necessary prescriptions will be sent from Fullscript where you can easily create an account and fulfill online.

Note: I usually suggest blood work and other labs in a 1st session to look at body biomarkers so that we can match symptoms to what is happening in the body and then make sure to align diet and lifestyle from there.
