My last brain health post spoke of the importance of mental brain breaks are vital to keeping a positive attitude and a positive mind. When there are days that you wake up feeling sluggish, it might be because thoughts and emotions overload your brain. Below are my top three botanical herbs that can nourish and support your brain’s memory.
My Three Favorite Brain Herbs for Memory
Gingko Biloba is one of the more popular memory herbs and my top favorite brain herb. It improves blood circulation in the brain plus it is loaded with antioxidants. All in all, Gingko helps improves memory and alertness.
My way favorite way to use: This herb has a slightly sour taste, so I will take it either as a capsule or by placing a 1 tsp to 1 TBSP in a cup of warm water. Once a day is plenty for prevention. Gingko, may cause digestive upsets, headaches, so it is best to take the “less is more,” approach.
Rosemary is quite popular in culinary dishes, but it can also improve brain function and enhance memory and concentration.
My way favorite way to use: Purchase a rosemary plant. And all you not so green thumbs, don’t worry rosemary is the easiest plant to keep alive! I go outside, snip a few clippings and then keep them in a vase in my office. My daughter will also have a few sprigs in her room while she is studying.
Gotu Kola Centella asiatica
Gotu Kola is part of the parsley family and is a little spicy to the taste. It is native to Asia and Europe, and is known to nourish the nervous system, improves brain circulation and mental performance and retention.
My way favorite way to use: Like Gingko, I will either take this as a capsule or as a tincture and place 1 tsp to 1 TBSP in warm water. Once a day is plenty for prevention.
An important side note
These herbs increase circulation, it is not indicated to take them while pregnant or menstruating. And if you are on any pharmaceutical medicines, speak with your doctor before taking any of them.
