Homeopathic remedies for colds and flu; I have been prescribing homeopathic medicines for many years with fabulous results. In fact, I help many families stock their natural medicine cabinet ( and educate) with homeopathics plus other natural medicines like botanicals to keep them well supplied, if needed. It is very empowering for them. In general, I tend to prescribe homeopathics in conjunction with other medicines and have them rotate them throughout the day – elderberry tincture, a few hours later a homeopathic, followed be vitamin c etc.
It can be very overwhelming and challenging to find the perfect homeopathic match in preventing or aiding in an illness, however, knowing your family’s members temperament and a handful of remedies, can make the process easier.
The most important consideration is recognizing the differences between cold and flu symptoms. I have written about this in a past blog post, so click here to familiarize yourself. Secondly, it can be very overwhelming and challenging to find the perfect homeopathic match to aid in an illness, however, knowing the patient’s temperament and a handful of remedies, can make the process easier. For example: Are they thirsty? Do they prefer cold or warm drinks? Are they angry or frightened?
Below are my top 5 remedies that tend to fit many cold or flu cases
1. Ferrum Phos
Keynotes: Usually given at early onset because there are no clear keynotes for any other remedy. They maybe better with touch and cold application. They feel worse when lying on right side.
Keynotes: Most people will present with a sudden, high fever, and a red face ( my older daughter has responded to Belladonna beautifully – she would present with a red face just before her sudden high fever). Cold hands and feet with a very hot head, dry skin, and sensitivity to light and sound. Bad dreams, night terrors may also be present.
Keynotes: This is usually the first remedy given when a cold or flu is noted ( or when wanting to help prevent one). The patient will be fearful… this is the important sign. Similar to Belladonna, the symptoms will come on rapidly with a high fever but usually due to exposure to cold, dry wind. They are very restless and have heavy throbbing head pain.
Keynotes: The patient has a slow developing fever that creeps up over a few days. They also do not want to be touched due to body aches and feel worse with moving. They will crave cold drinks. Because of the above, they may be quite irritable!
Keynotes: The flu will come on slowly especially after a change in the weather ( cold to warm or vice versa). There will be no thirst and the body will feel heavy – eyelids to limbs and weak. A fever will accompany moments of cold shiver running up and down their back.div>
What is Homeopathy?
I keep my medicine cabinet fully stocked throughout the fall and winter months because you never know in addition, I make double sure we are both taking our daily supplements which can easily get lost in the back to school routine.
Everything I suggest can be purchased on FullScript which is my online pharmacy. You can look over my favorites. If you have any questions or would like a prescription, let me know.

3. "Berry Well Immune Support" powder by Vital Nutrients for the kids

If you or someone gets sick...
Boiron Oscillococcinum - for children or adults
(or) Heel Flu Plus
Nux Vomica 30c
2. Immune Support
Elderberry tincture: I make a "grape juice" for the kids when they are sick and they sip on it throughout the day
PhytoGlycerite: for kids
EHB: for adults
3. Vitamin C
up to bowel tolerance ( 5 to 10 grams a day)
Dosages and protocol: Take medicines as directed. I like to suggest to people to take something every 2 to 3 hours. For example:
take one of the immune support suggested
and then start all over again
Do this for at least 5 days and at least 2 days after you feel better ( but you can cut back on the timing and/or dosages) for a total of 7 days.
And of course some hydrotherapy (magic socks) during the day and night will be key.
If you have any questions on deciding which supplements to purchase, please email me.
Cold: It’s all in the nose
A cold will often begin 1 to 5 days after being exposed to a virus or bacteria. Symptoms will mainly stay in the nose giving a runny, stuffy nose, and sneezing symptoms. Some colds will bring on a fever.
Flu: You are sick all over
Flu will begin abruptly with hardly any notice. Generally, a high fever will be the first sign following a flushed face, body aches and lack of energy. After a few days, symptoms may travel down the respiratory system creating sore throats, coughs and bronchitis.
The next few posts I will discuss a few options to prevent and treat so stayed tuned!
