I wonder too. So I looked into it.
And I stumbled across this infographic from GRIST.
It’s alarming yet not surprising. However, what I do find intriguing is that we do have ( kinda) clean water available to us.
( although I do admit, I use spring water and in my LA apartment, we are about to purchase a Berkey water filter).
What can we do? … besides purchasing other water sources?
Use cleaner products. That’s number one. Although triclosan and triclocarban are banned they are still found in many household products ( check out this article). Read labels and choose products that come from reputable companies that make an effort to produce products that are safer for us and the planet. You can travel over to the EWG and look for these companies.
And what to clean your drain with? Crunchy Betty has a good recipe that calls for vinegar and baking soda – that’s it and it works.
